- Vince Sanders
Vince is a retired veteran of the broadcast industry having spent nearly 40 years on the job. He began his career as an on-air talent at WBEE-AM in Chicago in 1958 and retired in 1995 as Vice President and General Manager of radio station WWRL-AM in New York City. He was Vice President of Broadcast Operations at the National Black Network from 1973 thru 1983. As an Anchor/Reporter for NBC news from 1971 thru 1973—he won the 1972 Gabriel Award.
In addition, Vince did on-air stints in the Chicago area at WMAQ-AM radio & TV, WMPP-AM radio and WCIU-TV. In 1968, he was a special correspondent for KPOI radio in Honolulu, Hawaii.
As an actor, Sanders traveled with the American Negro Opera Guild and the Richard B. Harrison Players in the early 1960's. In 1963 he was Theatrical Consultant to the Chicago Emancipation Centennial Authority; served as Executive Producer of the Ossie Davis-Ruby Dee Story Hour for three years. He is a founding member of the National Association of Black Journalists and was inducted into its Hall Of Fame (Region IV) in 2005. He was an original board member of the Central Florida Theatre Alliance and the People’s Theatre in Orlando.
Sanders attained the earlier portions of his education at the Historical Jones High in Orlando, Florida and studied speech and drama under the renowned Ethel Minns Lucas of the Chicago Conservatory. He and his wife, the former Joyce Anderson of Chicago, now live in the Orlando, Florida area. Vince returned home after 45 years in Chicago and New York City.
