I am the Director of Northwestern University’s Intelligent Information Laboratory (InfoLab). At the InfoLab, we focus on creating technology that bridges the gap between people and the information that serves them. The InfoLab creates frictionless information systems that make use of a wide variety of user contexts to support and radically transform user experiences in the areas of information retrieval, media delivery, speech recognition, collaborative environments, news gathering, intelligent browsing and personalized recommendation. Dr. Hammond also serves on Chicago Mayor Richard Daley’s Council of Technology Advisors. He is one of the founders of Media River Inc. and Allvoices.com, a global news site. Most recently we have been developing “News at Seven” a fully automated broadcast news show that sets the stage for the emergence of computer generated content.
