Aspire Entertainment & JustFM Entertainment make Chicago digital inclusion project interesting.
A leader in the promotion and digital delivery of urban entertainment content, Chicago-based Aspire Entertainment has tapped JustFM Entertainment to produce the Arts & Entertainment program at Englewood Multicultural Center.
Chicago, IL October 28, 2009 –Chicago-based Aspire Entertainment Network has dedicated its digital platform to help change Chicago’s Englewood community. Aspire has partnered with JustFM Entertainment to produce live showcases and video content at Englewood Multicultural Center to engage residents via promotion and distribution on Aspire’s internet TV, radio, and other digital channels.

Parent company XtraMedium is managing organizational development of the not-for-profit organization Englewood Multicultural Center and as part of its participation in Digital Inclusion, is focused on exposing culturally relevant content produced in the community through a series of live programming, “TV” shows, and public service announcements. This collaborative approach uses the support of local businesses, schools and social organizations to make talented youth the center of attention in their neighborhood and online and helps to change mindsets.

“We are excited to work with JustFM Entertainment to develop Englewood Multicultural Center as a prototype for galvanizing talent in urban communities. YouAspire.com serves as the digital centerpoint to expose that talent to the world. JustFM and it’s producers will deliver a standard to help the community realize and develop culturally relevant content to spur change from within. No one else in the U.S. is doing that.” said Steven C. Philpott, CEO, XCL & Commissioner for Aspire Digital Network. “

JustFM Entertainment is leading this effort by providing oversight of the Arts and Entertainment silo of Englewood Multicultural Center and producing a litany of fundraisers, ongoing showcases, and supporting lines of creativity driven business schedule for EMC’s Febnruary 2010 launch. “Our youth need a visible path of creative excellence. Collaborating with Aspire and the EMC will help to accomplish this while showing Chicago’s social and business unity.”, JustFlo, CEO Just FM Entertainment.
JustFM has produced a pilot for “Up Against the Wall”, a reality video series based on everyday efforts by artists working with residents to change the Englewood community. Up Against the Wall is scheduled for release on YouAspire.com in February 2010.

In October 2009 JustFM kicked off a series of investor presentations at Englewood Multicultural Theater to educate potential donors, investors and affiliated producers. The presentation features a networking session, presentation, musical performance, and preview of the Up Against the Wall pilot. These private invite-only presentations continue 7PM November 6th at the EMC Theater located at 6011 S. Justine in Chicago.

Women in Film Chicago to present the 2009 Focus Awards at an evening gala honoring local and national women of note

CHICAGO, Illinois– Women in Film Chicago (WIFC) will once again recognize and honor those women who have made significant contributions to the film, television, advertising or new media industries at its annual Focus Awards, held for the first time as an evening gala on October 20, 2009.

The Awards, held this year at the Wolf Point Ballroom, Chicago Mart Plaza, serves as Women in Film Chicago’s signature fundraising event. The proceeds from this event directly fund the education and programming WIFC provides the Chicago creative community throughout the year.

In addition, the Focus Awards celebrate women who have demonstrated a pioneering and enterprising spirit throughout their careers and who have strong ties to the Midwest. This year’s nominees include, Janice Arthur, pioneering Steadicam operator and cinematographer; Donna LaPietra, Emmy-award winning producer and leading philanthropist; and Nora Dunn, comedienne, actress and director extraordinaire.

The keynote speaker for this year’s event is Diane Jackson, the SVP, Executive Director of Integrated Production for DDB Chicago. As one of the top production executives in the U.S., Ms. Jackson is responsible for broadcast, print, and digital production for leading, award-winning brands such as Budweiser, McDonald’s, State Farm, and Wrigley. The gala will be emceed by ABC’s Channel 7 TV reporter, Evelyn Holmes.

“We are thrilled to honor these incredible women,” says Melissa Thornley, president of Women in Film Chicago. “And to host an event that really brings – from prominent thought-leaders to those just starting out in the business – the most passionate of the Chicago creative community together. It’s just so exciting to see the spirit of celebration our supporters bring each year to the Awards.”

The evening will include a cocktail hour, dinner and a silent auction with items generously donated by Lookingglass Theatre, Rosebud Restaurants, Mairanne Strokirk Salon, Kartemquin Films and PortaBrace specialty camera cases.

I'm a producer who's become a preditor - streaming projects for clients on the internet to connect their message via video, direct to their potential clients. I believe we are our own entertainment. Stories are all around us and we producers just have to catch them. We now have the ability to create our own content channels -- bypass the programmers. I'm finally in control of my own projects and it feels great! The rub was...I had to give stuff away for FREE to get started, but everyone I produced something for has ended up as a client.

Small, no-brain project for anyone who might have some time available this weekend.

I'm looking for a volunteer (could be a recent grad) for shooting the facebook developer garage workshop on Friday night from 6-11pm, located in Bucktown.

It's not a terribly demanding project, to be honest. We need someone who can come and video tape the entire event straight, no editing or fancy foot work, unless you're into that sort of thing and want to go all-out.

Will go on YouTube. If you happen to know of anyone who might be interested, please drop me a line ASAP.

I just participated in a 7 week marketing promotion online for a Showtime Mixed Martial Arts Pay Per View event. I was the editor of 5 of the seven part series. We achieved over 500,000 cumulative views of the body of work. The series was presented weekly on Youtube and was syndicated to Sports Illustrated and other sports and Mixed Martial Arts sites. Two episodes are on my profile here. I am available for production work, consultancy and editing in the midwest area.
