I have never used it.

I probably never did because I don't really do anything "live". At least not electronically.

What is it about?

how about this: time stretch video based on a detected BMP. SoundTrack cant do that, Sound Booth cant do that. 1 Feature just saved me hours in my workflow! and I dont even do music.

i've used v1 in the past - love the midi sync with Reason and was able to use the Gr33 to control it

maybe i need to crack on it again though - need a smaller keyboard based controller for live stuff

I've been an avid user of Live for about 4 years. It's pretty much a full fledged DAW with version 7 although it still keeps it's non-linear sequencer for performance and getting ideas down. I guess the jist of Live (at least originally) was that in addition to the traditional sequencer mode (i.e. Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools), it also had a non-linear or loop-based sequencer, which is great for live shows or writing songs. It was completely revolutionary at the time in 2001 and I haven't really seen a competitor since.

Oh, and with version 5 or 6, they added video syncing with the loops. So you could perform live without a VJ and still trigger different videos (out to a projector or whatever) for each section of the song, without doing anything. Neat.

V8 for FREE?! haha! ; ) Without a doubt, there should be an Ableton Live seminar, and maybe even an event clinic at Sound Convergence. I've been a user since v.3 and it revolutionized the way music could be composed interactively and performed LIVE. In fact, if SC didn't have anything dedicated to the program, it'd be a failure imho ; ) Okay, who wants to take up this mission with me?!
